A TRIP TO QUALITY AUTOMOTIVE

January 27,2018

Ever wonder how mechanics diagnose problems with our new fangled, complex cars?
If you are Robert Penhaker, you just pull out your very expensive Snap-On Modius Ultra analyser
and connect to your cars wiring harness.
Of course, as Robert pointed out, the test reading could allude to several causes,
where upon the mechanic still has to call upon his expertise to resolve the issue.
Robert invited the club to a demonstration at his shop, Quality Automotive, located at 5301 E. Empire.
We started with Andy Keksis’ GMC however there was a communication issue so we switched to Alan and Alice’s
Chevrolet. Robert unplugged various things and showed the results on the analyser.
At the end, he re-connected everything and Alan was able to exit the garage. We learned a lot and enjoyed the
Colombian coffee and donuts provided by Adrianna.
A VERY SPECIAL ICE CREAM SOCIAL

The Route 66 Car Club of Flagstaff had been approached by Dream Foundation, the only national dream-granting
organization for terminally-ill adults about one of their Dreamers, Thomas Leigh, whose dream was travelling on
Route 66.  The Club accepted the challenge.
Starting out Friday, March 16, Chuck Davis with his Red 1966 Mustang drove cancer victim Thomas Leigh to
Ash Fork then allowed Thomas to drive back thereby satisfying that bucket list dream of traveling on Route 66.
Then on Sunday, March 18, it was out to
2Bar3 to meet additional club members and to chow down.
Afterwards it was off to the
Galaxy for ice cream and shakes.
Below are pictures of Chuck’s Mustang, and other pictures of the gathering,
as well as two pictures of Thomas Leigh's motor cycles from back home.
Thomas had a terrific time, thanks to Chuck and our car club members doing what they do best, helping other people.

CLUB SPRING FOOD BOX PACKING COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITY

March 23, 2018

Making Easter better for many families, members of our club participated in a Spring Food Box Packing Community Service
event.  We packed about 300 boxes (5 pallets) of food for the needy.
We succeeded in emptying several large boxes of mixed food.
As with our previous Fall activity, it was very satisfying to be helping the community.
CLUB CRUISE TO MICHAEL DEVRIENDT'S PRIVATE CAR MUSEUM IN VERDE VALLEY

April 14, 2018

We had a grand time on April 14th at Mike DeVriendt's auto museum in Camp Verde!!  We first visited his "home"
museum, then traveled to his warehouse.  The pictures speak for themselves. What a fantastic collection!!
Not just the cars, but the signs, display rooms, and automotive accessories all contributed to an awesome
presentation.    Mike also shared his history of collecting cars.
FLAGSTAFF CRUISERS SPRING BENEFIT CAR SHOW

May 19, 2018

The big news for this car show, which had a nice assortment of rides, was the weather; NO wind!
As you  may recall, the last several shows had some vicious winds. The Route 66 Car Club of Flagstaff
had two(2) award winners at the show: Vern Pfannenstiel won Best Truck and Jeff Bryan won Best Upholstery.
About 40 cars were present.

Rather than post the "same old" car pictures, we thought you might like seeing some micro shots
of the various scenes at the show.  Photos by Candy Howard and the Newsletter Editor.
CLUB VOLUNTEERS ASSISTING WITH NATIONAL POSTAL SERVICE FOOD DRIVE

May 12, 2018

Several members of the club volunteered to help the USPS with their annual National Food Drive on May 12, 2018.
Some members were stationed at wither Safeway or Walmart accepting food donation for the drive.
Others shuttled the donated food from designated pickup areas to the Flagstaff Post Office.
While even others helped unload the shuttle vehicles and Postal Service vehicles and
load food into large palletized boxes to be taken to the Flagstaff Family Food Bank.
This was another way the club has helped serve the Flagstaff community.
